Over 20 of our Idaho IWF members participated in the May 22 Trailblazing Women of Idaho exhibition tour and program at the Idaho State Museum. After an opening welcome by Idaho First Lady Teresa Little, we shared lunch and conversation. We then learned about the vision for the exhibition by State Historical Society Curator of Exhibitions and Collections, Sarah Philips. We explored the exhibition on our own and learned about 104 accomplished, statewide women from all disciplines, ages, diverse backgrounds, and moments in time. From Sacajawea to members Barbara Morgan and Ellen Ochoa, Idaho women have broken barriers, transcended boundaries, and helped make Idaho the great state we all call home. Special thanks to Dr. Carol MacGregor who led our post tour conversation about the stories that resonated with and even surprised our members. The exhibition has been extended until March of 2022.

The IWF Book Club met for the first time to discuss “Begin Again” by Eddie Glaude Jr. At the conclusion of our session we agreed that Glaude’s book inspired us to learn more about the work of James Baldwin. For our next meeting we’ll discuss “No Name in the Street,” one of his most admired essays. It is an extraordinary history of the turbulent sixties and early seventies that displays James Baldwin’s fury and despair more deeply than any of his other works, and powerfully speaks to contemporary conversations around racism. Thank you Jennifer for heading up this project!
